Editor’s Comment: The article is a bit brief and probably needs to be spiced up through a few lines about his artworks (this should be explained according to how the writer sees it), his personality (physical or character) or probably his artistic process. Please revise.

Choo had great interest in art since his childhood days and harboured the dream of accomplishing great achievements in the field of art. He never stopped painting since then and after 40 years of hard work and experience, his dream became a reality following the establishment of GM CHOO ART GALLERY in Malacca, a town which was recently declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.

Choo is proud that his art gallery is located in one of the places where tourists flock when they visit Malacca. As batik is a unique heritage of Malaysia, Choo takes the extra effort to ensure that the process of producing a piece of batik is special – every single design is uniquely handmade and this has greatly impressed the tourists.

According to Choo, in order to achieve greater success in the field of art, one must not only have interest and talent, but also the perseverance to excel in their art. He likens art to mastering kung fu. The success of Shao Lin kung fu does not depend solely on the guidance of the masters, but also the extraction of essence from other streams of  kung fu. Likewise Choo had extracted the essence and humbly learned from other successful artists in producing batik without ceasing to achieve a breakthrough in his skills and techniques. His never ending effort had brought him  great achievements in the field of art.

With his inborn artistic talents and skills, Choo easily expresses his great sensation towards nature by putting fishes, mountains, rivers, stones into pieces of batik. Fishes have always been part of his life. Having grown up in a fishing village, he is passionate about fishes and is always surrounded by all kinds of fishes.

A perfectionist in everything, Choo he will not sell or display a painting which he deems unsatisfactory in his eyes; for him, the motivation for him to paint is not financial, but to satisfy the inner part of his being. Therefore he will ensure that every single piece of his art work conforms to his high standards and worthy of whatever his art lovers have spent.

With Choo’s interest in art and also his determination to achieving greater success in art, we can expect even greater pieces of artworks from him in the near future.  In fact, he is still learning at his old age and continues to improve himself everyday in order to produce more genuine, creative and wonderful pieces of art from his own hands.
